Discord rolls out a game-in-a-shop feature, and users can buy/grant skin props without starting the game.

According to external media reports, Discord is introducing an entirely new online shop function that supports digital items given and traded by users. This feature is first online in the ” Manu Vie Front ” , where users can search, buy and collect skin proprietors without leaving the Discord platform, while supporting the mutual gifts of friends.

According to Discord, as of that date the Mansion will open a shop page directly on its official Discord server, so that users can view and purchase props without having to start a game client. At the same time, users can create wish sheets for specific commodities and display them in their personal data, and friends can view each other and buy gifts directly. Stan Vishnevsky, co-founder and chief technical officer of Discord, stated in an interview with The Verge that the wish alone and gift function provided the greatest business opportunity for the platform and game developers. He states: “At present, approximately 20 per cent of the daily transactions on the Discord platform (personal data decorative proprietors store) are gifts, which will rise to more than 30 per cent during holidays”. Through the new shop function, the team hopes to extend this social gift beyond the Discord ecology. Discord would draw a share from the transaction but did not disclose a specific share. Vishnevski stressed that “Our goal is to bring added income and value to developers, not just to draw off.”

The value of this function is to simplify the purchase process while expanding potential players. According to Vishnevsky, the purchase of the Vulcans for oneself is relatively simple, but it is cumbersome to buy for others; if there is no game at all, it is almost impossible to give gifts other than a filling card. “The games played by friends are bound to be different, and we are not necessarily interested in what others like. This provides a way for game developers to reach potential users — a player’s best friend may become a customer as a result.” Currently, the store only supports dollar settlement and is limited to desktop applications, but Discord indicates that the team’s “first task” is to extend the functionality to the mainframe and mobile. With regard to why the first choice was “Running Hardy” , Vishnevsky explained that it was a natural choice: “They have the largest game community server in Discord, with more than 4 million members, and have continued to organize events and create reasons for players to participate.”

While this function is currently supported only by the ” Mundwigs ” , Vishnevsky stressed that the scheme was not limited to 3A-class games and large distributors. He referred to the Social Software Development Toolkit launched by Discord earlier this year, which allowed developers at all scales to integrate social functions such as chat into games. The game’s built-in shop plan will follow the same path: “We start with the 3A game, but the goal is to be open to a wider audience in the long term”. In the current media ecology, platforms are trying to achieve attention realization at the expense of different successes and user aversion by extending user stay. According to Vishnevski, the new function is not intended to bind users to Discord, but rather to enhance the social experience that players have on the platform: “Tell users that `your best friends like this game and this role, and that it would be more meaningful to give this props if they meet their birthday’ — a unique value that Discord can achieve.”
